70% of our world’s historic buildings and structures are privately owned.
Heritage homeowners have a crucial role to play in the preservation of heritage, and they need our support.
Heritage Homes is a platform for people who share an interest in and commitment to the preservation of family-owned heritage properties, local culture, and the distinct identity of cities and neighbourhoods.
Heritage Homes offers a membership for heritage homeowners, and a suite of support services ranging from listing on our own heritage-only property platform, to advice and design services to restoration investment. Lovers and supporters of heritage can stay, rent, buy or invest in our world wide selection of historic properties.
Our Background
Heritage Homes is a platform designed and launched by Doh Eain, a participatory design practice dedicated to making cities better.
Doh Eain started with Heritage Homes activities towards the end of 2015 when founder Emilie Roell helped our now team member Gulam and his family renovate their historic apartment in Yangon, Myanmar. Due to the illness of Gulam’s mother, this family had run into financial trouble. Receiving financial and design support from us, their apartment was restored to modern standards and rented out to a new tenant. Renovation was paid back over time, while the family started enjoying a solid monthly income. Soon, other family members and friends in the city who owned heritage spaces started approaching us with similar requests for advice and restoration help.
We realised that while in many cities there are advocates for heritage preservation, the focus is generally on the restoration of monuments and publicly owned buildings, or the development of policies and regulations. A large gap remains between the conservation sector and everyday families owning heritage simply needing practical support.
We felt that a different more hands-on approach was needed, not only to preserve historic buildings but also to make sure that heritage homeowners would be engaged in the evolution of their neighbourhoods and reap the benefits of their family history and property. Thus, we formally established Heritage Homes by Doh Eain and set out on this mission.
